Collects and Post Communions

I've started to write some new liturgy by offering a critique of the Church of England's Collects and Post Communions (the two prayers which change week by week, and for major festivals). It has taken me nearly five years to gain the confidence to even have a go at putting this stuff down in writing since I see the writing of liturgy as a colloborative, if not committee-like process. What nudged me into having a go was a conversation with a good friend, Ruth, who spoke of some text based work she had done, and how difficult it is to write public text which authenticates the perspective of an organization, unless it is collaborative. In saying that she reinforced my view that I had to believe I wasn't doing this alone, it was as I saw that barrier to my writing new texts that it dawned, slowly, that taking existing texts and offering reasons for alternates to what is offered is the best way of emulating cooperative writing, whilst maintaining the discipline of individual research. So I've managed eight Collects, eight Post-Communions and I even had a bit of a go at tampering with Eucharistic Prayer E from Common Worship as well!
