Carol Service Collects: Patience in the waiting (Redub)

O God, our God, help us be patient

as we hunger for your freedom.

Keep us hoping for the joy we cannot see or feel

as we wait for this Christmas

and long for the arrival of your new creation.

While it is still night, sustain our wait for liberty,

so that, as soon as the love of Jesus dawns on us,

we will be ready to receive you. 
Help us be ready too, to bring your love to the world,

both now and forever. Amen.

God of all things and all people,
 give us grace

to throw off that which diminishes

put on the clothes of eternal peace instead.

May we begin this,

in the time of our earthly lives.

We would like to be like Jesus, the Christ,

who came and lived with us, plainly and simply.

When, at the last, 
Christ makes a glorious return,

with mercy and love, may we come alive,
in God, in the new creation.

you wonderfully created us in your own image.


More wonderfully, you are transforming us,

in a way that follows the pattern of Jesus Christ.

You came to us, fully human, living with us in creation.

We pray that we may find your divine love,

even in the messiest places of our lives.

We pray too that your love would

bring relief, from the labour pains

that our whole world goes through,

in the struggle towards freedom.

Loving God we ask that you would

pour messages of your love into our lives.

We know everything changed

when the angel brought news to Mary

that she would become God-bearer,

and carry your son Jesus in her womb.

Change us too.

We know how costly it was for Mary,

in her mothering, even seeing Jesus suffer and die.

We realize we may walk a hard way too,

but keep us hopeful of life that bursts from the grave,

through Jesus Christ our rescuer.
