surprise visit

Ian, who I've known for seventeen years telephoned on Wednesday to say he could come up Thursday. We had a wonderful evening together, chewed the fat, walked along the river -- had a good old catch up. We've chatted on the phone several times this year, it has been four months since we last saw each other. It is fantastic to spend time with someone who you know is going to be around, God willing, for a very long time to come.

Ian has a quiet day he's leading today (Saturday) and we spent a few hours on Friday planning it together. I had a few ideas up my sleeve from days I led a couple of years back. They're going to be doing Emmaus Walk, Praying with Scripture (lectio divina), breathing the Lord's Prayer, the day's newspapers as an Our Father, and a silent prayer walk. He's coming back over from Lancaster for tonight's celebration and the gig Miles is doing in Mary's honour.
